Internship with Northeast Georgia Health System
N4 - Orthopedic and Neurosurgery
In my first rotation with NGHS I was put on the orthopedic and neurosurgery floor. There, I helped with patients who were recovering from surgery. I assisted technicians in cleaning patients and rooms, moving patients, and taking vital signs.
Imaging Center
My second rotation placed me at the imaging center. This was an outpatient building, making it very different from the hospital. I observed a lot of different types of radiology, like x-ray, endoscopy, CT, and MRI. In my first rotation, i did a lot of hands on things, but in this rotation, I observed much more. I often went to MRI and helped set up scans and did paper work there. I also helped set up the slides used to read x-rays as pictured in the two photographs to the right.
S5E - Oncology and Hospice and S3B - Pediatrics
My third rotation placed me on the oncology and hospice floor. This floor will always be very special to me. I expanded my skills in patient care and cleaning rooms. I also was able to shadow nurses on this floor and observe wound care, catheter removals, and I learned how to chart vitals and medication rounding. I also learned postmortem care during my last week.
In my last rotation, I went to pediatrics. I was only able to go for two days before the coronavirus prohibited me from going. While I was there, I observed nurses and cared for young children and babies with various ailments.
